A carbon-containing refractory material capable of preventing the deformation of a shell of a vessel for a molten metal without causing the durability of a lining thereof to decrease, achieving the improvement of the lifetime of a can body and the inhibition of a decrease in the temperature of a molten metal therein, and reducing an energy loss, and suitably used for a lining of such a vessel; and a vessel for a molten metal, which is capable of reducing an energy loss, and which has a stable durability. The unburned carbon-containing refractory material which contains refractory aggregate, and not higher than 30 wt.% of a raw carbon material containing graphite in at least a part thereof, wherein X wt.% of carbon content of the refractory material and a thermal conductivity μ (W/m°C) have the relation of μ$M(F)0.8X + 7, not lower than 20 parts by weight of refractory aggregate which has an apparent porosity of not higher than 10 %, and a size of larger than 1 mm being contained with respect to a total of 100 parts by weight of the refractory aggregate and raw carbon material; and the vessel for a molten metal which is lined with such a refractory material.
|
