PROCESS FOR PURIFYING LACTIDE AND LACTIDE USED AS FOOD ADDITIVE

A crude lactide in solid form or at least partially molten form is brought into contact with ethanol to obtain a slurry mixture and then the solid is separated from the mixture to obtain a purified lactide of a high purity. A crude lactide is recrystallized from undenatured ethanol or denatured ethanol to obtain a lactide usable as a food additive. The lactide is usable as an additive for various foods.
