PURPOSE: An apparatus and a methode for compressing a sound data in mobile communication terminal equipment is provided to compress and store efficiently the sound data by using Hoffmann methode. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus and a methode for compressing a sound data in mobile communication terminal equipment comprises: a first memory(65) for storing a first compressed sound data by direct memory access unit; a second memory(20) for storing a second compressed sound data compressing the first compressed sound data; a compander(67) for reading the first compressed sound data, compressing secondly it to output the second compressed sound data, and expanding the second compressed data to output the first compressed sound data; and a control unit(10) for controlling the compander to read and compress the first compressed sound data and to read and expand the second compressed data.
