Controlling brightness of display in motor vehicle based on intensity of sun using pattern recognition to produce brightness change based on intensity and angle of incidence

The angle of incidence as well as intensity of sun or other extraneous light is determined and brightness change suited to angle and intensity is produced in display using pattern recognition technique. Incident extraneous light may be determined at front and back of vehicle, to determine brightness profile in vehicle. Light is detected using two CCD sensors. Pattern recognition may involve fuzzy techniques. An apparatus for controlling the brightness of a display in a motor vehicle is also claimed.
