<p>An airborne hazardous material reader device (10) capable of receiving a collection element (30). The reader device (10) has a body forming a slot area (12) for receiving the collection element (30). The body has a crushing mechanism (16) located within the slot area (12) for breaking ampules (38) attached to the collection element (30) containing chemical testing reagents (32), a micro-pump (14) positioned proximate to the slot area (12) for controlling the temperature next to the collection element (30), a diode reading component (20) incorporated within the body for distinguishing color changes from the release of chemical testing reagents (32) from the broken ampules (38), an indicator (34) for indicating the presence of a hazardous material when the diode reading component (20) distinguishes color changes and a microprocessor (24) that coordinates the sequence of the reader device (10). A method for airborne hazardous material detection also is disclosed.</p> |
