The scanner has a scanning drum (1) for spreading a document (5), an illumination arrangement, a scanning objective (14), a scanning element (15) and a feed support (17) carrying the objective and scanning element. The scanning element has a top illumination device for producing a light spot on a top scanned document. The objective is movable to correct the focus of the scanning light for drums of different diameter, and the top illumination device can be displaced to optimize the light spot.
