PURPOSE: An optical type rotary encoder is provided, which can detect data in high accuracy. CONSTITUTION: The optical type rotary encoder comprises: a fixing plate (1) to be fixed and formed in horizontal with an X-Y plane; a plurality of zone plates (2) to be formed to the fixing plate (1); an optical source (3) to be arranged for forming an optical axis in Z direction which is crossed to the fixing plate (1) and for emitting a light toward a plurality of zone plates (2); and a rotating slit plate (4) to be arranged in horizontal with an X-Y plane and be crossed and arranged with the optical axis, wherein a pair of zone plates (2) to be arranged according to a slit (4a) in a radiation type. Thereby, it is possible to perform a stable detection.
