[Also in Division F1] A face cam drive for fuel injection pumps comprises a cam track 2 which co-operates with at least one roller 10, having cylindrical inner and outer surfaces, supported with radial and axial play on the barrel-shaped outer surface of a bearing bush 11 carried on a pin 8 so that the roller may tilt relative to the bush to maintain line contact with the cam track when the latter is deformed under load. As shown, the cam track 2 is formed on a circular plate 1, drivingly connected by a peg 3 to a rotatable and axially reciprocable piston rod 5 and driven by a rotating input shaft (not shown) extending through a central space 6. The rollers 10 are located in an annular slot 9 in a fixed ring 7 and washers 14 having a convex outer face react the axial loads on the rollers when these are tilted. Alternatively, the cam track may be fixed and the rollers connected to the piston rod. |
