PURPOSE: A preparation method of a nickel hydroxide active material and a nickel electrode made of the active material produced by the method are provided which can reduce the amount of additives such as a substitutional element and produce the title compound by a continuous process. CONSTITUTION: A method for making a nickel hydroxide active material comprises: (a)spraying a primary mixture(4) containing a nickel sulfate solution(1) and ammonia water(2) onto a primary reacting tank(9) supplied with sodium hydroxide(6); (b)producing a nickel hydroxide core by reacting the primary mixture(4) with the sodium hydroxide(6) at 35-70°C for 2.5-6 hrs; (c)supplying the nickel hydroxide core onto a secondary reacting tank(19); (d)spraying with a secondary mixture(14) containing the nickel sulfate solution(1) and the ammonia water onto the secondary reacting tank(19) and suppling with the sodium hydroxide(16); (e)reacting the secondary mixture(14), the sodium hydroxide(16) and the nickel hydroxide core(20) at 35-70°C for 5-30 min and growing the nickel hydroxide core(20). The nickel sodium solution(1) in the primary and secondary mixture contains the nickel sulfate as a major component, 0.02-0.2 mol/L of boron and 0.02-0.2 mol/L of at least one substitutional elements selected from Co, Cd, Zn, Ca and Mg as an auxiliary component simultaneously. Also is disclosed a nickel electrode made of the active material produced by the method. The process can produce a high capacity and long life cycle nickel electrode having improved fluidity, active material utility rate and high charging and discharge characteristics. |
