The invention relates to a device for continuously producing combustibles in the form of pellets from biomass by compressing the biomass. Said device is provided with a screw extruder (1) having a screw (2) housed in a screw casing (5). Said screw extruder has a spiral volume which is reduced towards the outlet (3) of the screw (2) and which effects an initial compression. It also has a matrix (9) arranged at the outlet (3) of the screw (2) in the area of the last screw spiral. Said matrix is provided with a plurality of at least partially cylindrical bores (14) through which the biomass precompressed by the screw can be continuously shaped while compressing it further. Said device is characterized in that the ratio of the volume V2 of the last screw spiral to the total volume V1 of the cylindrical parts (16) of all bores (14) of the matrix (9) ranges from 1:0.2 to 1:7. This ratio also depends on the humidity of the biomass which ranges from 0 to 60 %. The ratio V2/V1 is inversely proportional to the humidity.
