The invention relates to a radial piston pump for building up high fuel pressure in fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, comprising an input shaft (2) mounted in a pump housing (1) having an eccentric shaft segment (3) on which a polygonal ring (4) is mounted that supports preferably several pistons radially disposed in relation to the input shaft (2) in a corresponding bore (10 to 12), said pistons moving back and forth in radial direction in the corresponding bore (10 to 12) by rotating the input shaft (2). Wear of the radial piston pump is reduced by the fact that a bucket tappet (23 to 25) is mounted between the piston (8 to 10) and the polygonal ring (4), the bottom (20 to 22) of said tappet having a chamfer on the side facing the input shaft (2). In another embodiment of the invention, the bottom (20 to 22) of the bucket tappet (23 to 25) has several through holes.
