<p>A recumbent apparatus (10) for exercise and physical therapy providing a lower body workout, an upper body workout and cardiovascular conditioning, the apparatus (10) comprising a frame (12) having a forward (14) end and a rearward end (16), the frame generally defining a longitudinal axis (24) extending between the forward and rearward ends, a seat (28) supported by the frame (12), a left leg assembly (56) and a right leg assembly (57), a left arm assembly (54) and a right arm assembly (55), the arm assemblies (54, 55) supported by the frame for pivoting movement also about the pivot axis (32), the left leg assembly (56) being connected to the right arm assembly (55) enabling movement therewith the right leg assembly (57) being connected to the left arm assembly (54) enabling movement therewith and defining the connected assemblies coupled by at least one generally stiff mechanical linkage to a cam (182) such that forward movement in one of the connected assemblies induces rearward movement in the other the connected assemblies, thereby enabling contralateral movement of the arm and leg assemblies, a resistance device (198) providing resistance to the movement of the arm and leg assemblies about the pivoting axis.</p> |
