PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for controlling an intermodulation distortion in a communication system are provided to exactly judge whether the intermodulation distortion is generated or not and remove the generated intermodulation distortion. CONSTITUTION: A method and apparatus for controlling an intermodulation distortion in a communication system include an A/D transformation means, a discrete fourier transformation part(112), a digital filter part(118), and a control part(116). The A/D transformation means is to sample each analog signal, which is transformed with a base band, and transform each analog signal with a digital base band signal. The discrete fourier transformation part is to inflow the digital base band signal and output a sample which is transformed by the discrete fourier transformation. The digital filter part is to filter the intermodulation distortion in the digital base band signal by a digital filter calculation which is flowed in according to a control signal, thereby removing the intermodulation distortion, or to transmit to the modulation and demodulation part without a filter. The control part is to flow the sample in and calculate a sample(Xp) having the maximum value and an average value(Xave) of the rest samples except predetermined number of samples around the sample(Xp). The control part is to compare a value(Xav + alpha) which is to add a predetermined value(alpha) to the average value(Xave) with the value of the sample(Xp) to judge whether an intermodulation signal is generated or not, and control the digital filter. The control part is to generate the digital filter calculation as the maximum value(P), which is generated by the interpolation of the sample(Xp) and the predetermined number of samples around the sample(Xp), the frequency and the band width at the maximum value(P).
