An electrochemical cell (10), typically an air depolarized cell of the button-type has non-reactive elements significantly thinner than corresponding non-reactive elements of prior art cells. Such elements are thinner thanks to improved structures of such elements. Among these elements is an anode can (24) which is made from a metal strip structure having a high steel content. Another element is the cathode can (40) which has a modified temper and improved relative stiffness and rigidity, while retaining sufficient ductility to tolerate forming the cathode can. By so reducing the thicknesses of non-reactive elements of the cell (10), and thus the volume occupied by such non-reactive elements, the fraction of the volume of the cell (10) devoted to holding electrochemically reactive anode material (26) therein is increased, yielding a corresponding increase in the milliampere hour capacity of the cell.

|
