To manufacture NTC thermistors metal oxides are premixed and calcined. The particle size is reduced and a slurry is produced which, when cooled, is pured at ambient temperature onto a web of release material and spread across the web. The web is heated at about 60°C for a period of from 30 to 60 minutes. A wafer thus formed is debinderised in a number of heating stages including a final stage heating at 680°C to 720°C for a period of at least one hour. The temperature is raised to 900°C to 1000°C for transfer to a sintering process. The debinderisation, transfer and sintering thermal cycles provide optimum production efficiency over a wide range of formulations without microcracking.
