Holding device (1) for an undergauge projectile comprises at least three segments surrounding the undergauge projectile body (2). It includes first devices, such as a front cavity (6), intended to receive an aerodynamic flow when the weapon tube is released at the time of firing, and second devices (7), such as a rear cavity (7), intended to receive propulsive gas when the weapon tube is released. The first and second devices are positioned and dimensioned with respect to each other such that the holding device (1) moves away from the projectile body (2) in a direction more or less parallel to the latter when the weapon tube is released.
