Filter and gas vent system incorporated in an ostomy bag

The bag contains a filter (30) in the form of a flat strip with the two ends of its deodorising core (31), e.g. of activated carbon, exposed to the air or enclosed in the bag. The filter is held in place in the bag by diagonal welds (24,25) joining the bag walls and extending from the lateral edges (14,15) of the bag towards its upper edge (13). One of the welds stops short of the upper edge to form a channel (26) for gas to pass through to reach one end of the filter, while the bag has an outlet hoel (36) adjacent to the other end.
