Apparatus for transferring liquid cargoes to and from a vessel S moored offshore comprises a circular anchor base 12 on the seabed 18 having a riser pipe connecting a shore connected product line 16 to an articulated cargo handling pipe system 10. A lower horizontal conduit 24 is supported by rollers 22 on a circular track on the base 12 for pivotal movement while the conduit 34 has swivel joint connection to the conduit 24 to allow universal movement relative to it. A loading mast 44 pivoted to the conduit 34 has a main permanent buoyancy tank 58 and a regulating tank 62. An offset counterweight 50 biases the mast 44 to incline away from the conduit 34 as shown. In a rest position the tank 62 is flooded and the mast 44 lies on the sea bed. When a vessel S moors compressed air is introduced into an air line 64 to force water out of a port 70 so that the mast rises to the position shown. A line 92 to the vessel's hoist now raises the mast until the adapter 88 can be connected to the ship's manifold and the mast can be secured in position by lines 96 passed to bollards 98. In ship loading position the port 70 will be exposed draining the tank 62 completely but as loading progresses it will enter the water and partial flooding will occur. On completion of loading the adapter 88 is uncoupled and a valve 66 opened to flood the tank 62 after the lines 96 have been cast off. If the lines 96 are too tight to cast off compressed air may be used to raise the mast 44 to slacken them. The articulation of the pipes allows limited movement of the vessel at its moorings.</p> |
