PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a manufacturing cost when a square steel tube pillar is manufactured using a corner welding end tab. SOLUTION: A protective plate 18 having a single V groove is set within a groove 23 for the protective plate formed in a water cooling type end tab main body 17, and a water cooling type corner welding end tab 27 is formed. The water cooling type corner welding end tab 27 which is placed on a tab holder 13 is butted against a corner part and surface of skin plates 1, 2 assembled into a box shaped cross section to form the continuous single V groove, and submerged arc welding is applied. The water cooling type end tab main body 17 is repeatedly usable, the protective plate 18 is lightened by cooling by the water cooling type end tab main body 17, a quantity of scraps is reduced, and whereby a reduction of a manufacturing cost of a square steel tube pillar is attained.
