Headings B6B and B6H. Sheets such as envelope blanks E, Fig. 1, being passed round a drum 55 have certain areas such as windows which are to be covered with overlays, and are pre-gummed to receive them. The overlays are in the form of sheet material cut from webs B1, B2 by transverse rotary cutters 15, 115, there being one web and cutter for each said area. The cut sheets are delivered to a section drum 5, Figs. 1 and 2, having alternate rows of holes 23, 23<SP>1</SP> in an outer shell aligned with axial slots 24, 24<SP>1</SP> in an inner shell, the slots 24, 24<SP>1</SP> being respectively connected to part-annular galleries 27, 30 in stationary control heads 28, 31 during part of the rotation of the drum. The cut sheets are thereby held on the drum surface during passage from the cutters to a supplementary suction drum 12, when they are released from the drum 5 and held on the drum 12 for transfer to the gummed areas on the blanks E. Holes in the drums 5, 12 which are not in alignment with the overlays are closed with grub-screws. |
