PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject gel under mild conditions by using a polymer derived from a naturally yielded sheet-like silicate, etc. SOLUTION: This method for producing a gel from an organopolysiloxane sheet-like or tube-like polymer comprises bringing (B) the sheet-like or tube-like silicate into contact with (C) an organohalosilane comprising a dihalosilane or trihalosilane of the formula: R1R2SiX2 or R1SiX3 (X is a halogen; R1, R2 are each a 1-30C alkyl, an aryl, an alkaryl or the like) in (A) a polar solvent or a mixture of a polar solvent with a non-polar solvent, heating the obtained sheet-like or tube-like silicate and the mixture of the components A and C until forming an organopolysiloxane sheet-like or tube-like polymer, mixing the obtained organopolysiloxane sheet-like or tube-like polymer with an alkoxysilane, and subsequently leaving the mixture at room temperature or higher.
