PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time to be elapsed before recording is started after feeding operation of recording medium is started by starting preliminary operation of recording head simultaneously with feeding operation of recording medium through a paper feeding means. SOLUTION: The recorder receives a recording signal from a computer, or the like, (S1), retracts a slide lever from a switching arm (S2) and switches a drive switching mechanism (S3). Paper feed from an automatic paper feeder to the body is then started (S4), a carriage is retracted from the slide lever at the same time by moving it from a specified position to a different position (S5) and preliminary operation of a recording head on the carriage is started (S6). More specifically, transmission of driving force to the automatic paper feeder is released and driving force is switched by the drive switching mechanism (S7) and recording is started on a recording sheet being fed from the automatic paper feeder by means of the recording head on the carriage (S8) upon completion of a series of operations. |
