PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slide base switching device for a classifier capable of classifying and sorting articles in accordance with the detection results of a detector, independently of the size and shape of the articles to be mounted. SOLUTION: A mover 16 switchable between two positions, a rail non-contact position and a rail contact position, is provided on the back of a slide base 8. The mover 16 is provided with a guide pin 25 protruded downward to escape the mover 16 to the rail non-contact position against a spring 18 with a locking member 17 annexed thereto and operate an unlocker arranged in front of a guide rail for cancelling the locking member 17. In this way, the mover 16 is switched to the rail contact position with the resilience of the spring 18 to move the slide base 8 sideways while putting the guide pin 25 in contact with the guide rail. A shape detecting means is provided at the start end of an endless chain for detecting the shape of articles, so that a predetermined unlocker 20 is operated through a detection signal to discharge the articles from the middle of the endless chain, determined by shapes, to the outside.
