PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sailcloth for transmission belt in which production time of cylindrical belt canvas is remarkably shortened and a method for producing transmission belt using the canvas. SOLUTION: A sailcloth 1 comprising a warp 2a located parallel to the longitudinal direction (A) and weft 2b arranged so that angle crossing to the warp 2a become >=90 deg. angle is prepared and a cylindrical canvas 4 is prepared by butting and joining the width ends of the canvas 1 and the cylindrical sailcloth 4 is spirally cut to prepare opened sailcloth 7 in which the warp 2a and weft 2b are arranged at mutually equal angles to the shaft in the longitudinal direction and the opened canvas is cut in a prescribed length and the cut ends of the canvas are jointed to provide the objective canvas for transmission belt.
