The invention comprises a fuel cell in which an ion-exchange diaphragm is supported in a frame by a member extending around the periphery of the diaphragm, the cross-section of the member comprising a pair of legs straddling the edge of the diaphragm and another pair straddling the edge of the frame. The member may be endless and may be made of electrically insulating material. In a particular embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, the fuel cell comprises end walls 1 and 2, electrodes 6 and 7 and diaphragm 8 supported in frame 3 by member 9. |
