PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nematic liquid crystal composition having a negative dielectric anisotropy and an extremely high specific resistance value, useful for a plasma address display by making the composition include a specific liquid crystal compound. SOLUTION: This composition comprises one or more kinds of compounds of the formula [R11 and R12 are each a 1-8C alkyl, alkoxy, a 2-8C alkenyl, alkenyloxy or the like; Z11 and Z12 are each a single bond, (CH2)2, trans-CH=CH or CH2O; A and A are each trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene or the like; (n) is 0-2] such as substituted 4-(trans-1,4-cyclohexylene)2,3- difluorophenylene. Preferably, the nematic liquid crystal composition is used to constitute a liquid crystal display. |
