PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool capable of performing efficient cutting work to remove scales under high-temperature reducing atmosphere. SOLUTION: This material cutting method uses a carbide tool, which contains at least one compound selected from a carbide of groups IV, V or VI elements, a nitride and a carbonitride as a component for forming a hard phase and at least one metal selected from Co, Ni and Cr as a component for forming a metallic binder phase, and uses a cemented carbide having the content of the metallic binder phase set to 0.3 to 20 wt.% as a cutting member. A target material is cut at a cutting speed of 5 to 100 m/s and at a target material temperature of 600 to 1,200 deg.C.
