PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device that stops the descent of a shutter curtain with a brake returned mechanically to its operation when a person is caught by the shutter curtain while the shutter curtain is lowered by its self-weight and allows the shutter curtain to restart the descent by its self-weight after the person is released. SOLUTION: A the inside of a guide rail 3a on one side, a wire 7 extending in the vertical direction while being fixed at its lower end to the lower part of the guide rail 3a and connected at its upper end to an operating part of an automatic closing device 5 is arranged, and an obstacle detecting member 6 is hung down from the lower end of a shutter curtain 1 so that the member can be moved up and down while a means for pulling the wire 7 in cooperation with the upward movement of the obstacle detecting member 6 that moves upward when being brought into contact with an obstacle is provided. With the wire 7 pulled on contacting with the obstacle, the operating part is moved to the waiting position side and a brake is returned to its operation, and after the obstacle is removed, the obstacle detecting member 6 moved downward, releasing the pulling of the wire, and the operating part moves to the operating position, releasing the brake 4a.
