PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To add a load to a slider holding fixture only in the case of necessity and let its mechanism well function smoothly when the edge portion of a slider is to be polished so as to be chamfered. SOLUTION: The vertical movement of an overlap holding plate 110 thereby enables the lower end part of the shaft part 113a of an overlap 113 at the lowermost stage to select either one of a state that no load is added to this slider holding jig without abutting against the slider holding jig or a state that the lower end part of the shaft part 113a of the overlap 113 abuts against the slider holding jig so as to allow load to be added to the slider holding jig. Each spiral groove 138 is formed over the outer circumferential surfaces of the shafts of overlaps 113, 123 and 133. Each aforesaid spiral groove 138 takes in cutting chips (powder) generated when each shaft part of the overlaps 113, 123 and 133 is rubbed with the hole of each overlap holding fixture 140, so that the operation of each shaft part can thereby be kept smooth.
