<p>A briquette for use in a furnace charge comprises densely compacted fragments of scrap metal having a phosphorus content such that the phosphorus content of the briquettes is not greater than 3% and the mass of the briquettes preferably being such that they reach the melting zone of a cupola before disintegrating, alloying additions such as carbon, silicon or molybdenum, and desulphurizing agents such as sodium carbonate or calcium carbide may also be present in the briquettes which may also include as binder slag-forming substances such as fluorspar, quick - or slaked lime, or sulphite lye.</p> |
