PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent or suppress the occurrences of an abnormal temperature rise of refrigerant, and avoid frequent protective operations to take place, which is triggered by such a temperature rise. SOLUTION: An air conditioner 1 realizes a cooling operation in which refrigerant discharged from a compressor 11 is circulated by way of a four-way valve 12, an outdoor side heat exchanger 13, a check valve 19, an indoor side heat exchanger 4, the four-way valve 12, and a check valve 21, and also realizes a heating operation in which the refrigerant is circulated by way of the four-way valve 12, the indoor side heat exchanger 4, a two-way valve 23 and a refrigerant heater 14 which is heated by a gas burner 36. There is provided a thermistor 31 for detecting the pressure of refrigerant. During heating operation, the combustion rate of the gas burner 36 is controlled in accordance with the output of the thermistor 31.
