PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laterally shifting apparatus enabling the lateral shift of a reaping part without causing troubles even in the case of a machine having three or more reaping rows. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with a threshing depth controlling means to change the posture of a culm at a longitudinal transfer apparatus 13 to control the threshing depth at the threshing part 5 to be fallen within a prescribed range based on the detection information transmitted from a pair of ear detection sensors 24, 25 to detect the length of culm transferred by the longitudinal transfer apparatus 13. The reaping part 4 is laterally movable relative to the threshing part 5. The ear detection sensors 24, 25 are attached to a supporting arm 26 extending from a side panel of an operation part. When the necessary changing extent of the culm posture at the longitudinal transfer apparatus 13 exceeds the realizable maximum changing extent, the reaping part 4 is laterally shifted in the direction passing the limit by a lateral shift controlling means.
