PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a molding material which is thermoreversible and has a short transition time by incorporating a first component comprising a transparent plastic material with a second component comprising a non-liquid-crystalline material thermodynamically incompatible with the first component and different in the temperature dependency of refractive index. SOLUTION: This molding material is a thermoreversible transparent material comprising 1-99 wt.% first component comprising a transparent plastic material 99-1 wt.% second component comprising a non-liquid-crystalline material thermodynamically incompatible with the first component and different in the temperature dependency of refractive index, and, optionally, 0-50 wt.% additional components such as a reinforcement, a colorant, a lubricant, a stabilizer, an antioxidant, a plasticizer and a filler. The first component is exemplified by a transparent rubber or a transparent polyamide each of which permits the control of the properties of the matrix of a molding material so that the matrix may have properties of a transparent rubber or properties of a transparent glass. The second component is a transparent polymer having a refractive index markedly changing at a specified cloud temperature and is exemplified by a styrene/butadiene copolymer, or an ethylene/glycidyl methacrylate copolymer.
|
