PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a steel cord capable of lightening and having improved strength by winding a wrapping wire around a sheath obtained by winding a plurality of filaments around a core consisting of a plurality of filaments. SOLUTION: This steel cord has a layered twist structure and 50-70% elasticity and is obtained by forming a sheath around a core and also forming a layer on the outer periphery of the sheath wherein the core is obtained by twisting (n) steel filaments [(n)=1 to 4] having 0.1-0.25 mm diameter and 3,000-4,800 N/mm2 tensile strength at 5.0-7.0 mm pitch, the sheath is obtained by winding (m) filaments satisfying the formula (m)=[(n)+(2 to 6)] and the layer is obtained by winding a winding wire at 3.5-5.0 mm pitch thereon.,The pneumatic radial tire is obtained by using the steel code as a carcass ply.
