PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a frequency of a wiping operation and restrict an image density unevenness by counting discharged dots of ink liquid drops discharged from a recording head and determining on the basis of the count result whether or not an ink discharge face of the recording head is cleaned by a wiping means. SOLUTION: A recovery system unit 14 arranged at the side of a home position of a carriage 2 has caps 15 which are set corresponding to discharge faces of a head cartridge 1 and are movable up and down, and a blade 18. The cap 15 is united to the ink discharge face of each recording head (1A-1D). Ink is sucked and discharged by a negative pressure generated by a pump 16. In the recording apparatus with this wiping means, when a recorded recording medium is delivered, whether or not the ink discharge face of the recording head is cleaned is determined on the basis of the count result by a counting means which counts discharged dots of ink liquid drops discharged from the recording head.
