PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorber by which an absorption capacity that is greater than that of the conventional is obtained. SOLUTION: A plurality of cooling water pipings 2 extending in a horizontal direction inside an absorber chamber are arranged in a plurality of stages with spaces therebetween in a vertical direction. Each plate like heat transfer means 1 is constituted with a plurality of heat transfer plates 11 which are provided for each one or each plurality of stages of the arrangement of the cooling water pipings 2. Each heat transfer plate 11 extends in the horizontal direction. For two heat transfer plates 11 adjacent to each other in the vertical direction a predetermined space is provided between the lower end face of the upper level heat transfer plate 11 and the upper end face of the lower level heat transfer plate 11. One or a plurality of stages of the arrangement of the cooling water pipings 2 pass through each heat transfer plate 11. In all or the other heat transfer plates 11 except the highest position of heat transfer plates 11, the upper end face of each heat transfer plate 11 and the upper end of the outer circumferential face of the cooling water piping 2 of the highest stage passing through each heat transfer plate 11 are evenly arranged on the same or approximately the same height. Further, a plurality of vapor flow holes 12 are provided in each heat transfer plate 11 apart from the outer circumferential face of each cooling water piping 2.
