ENHANCEMENT OF FUNGAL DISEASE RESISTANCE OF GRAPE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the resistance of grapes to powdery mildew and anthracnose by transferring a chitinase gene into the adventitious embryos of grapes followed by selecting the resultant transformed adventitious embryos which are then regenerated in the plant. SOLUTION: The resistance of grapes to fungal diseases including powdery mildew and anthracnose is enhanced by transferring a chitinase gene derived from pref. rice into the adventitious embryos acquired from the tissue of grapes pref. as a variety of cultivated grapes followed by selecting the resultant transformed adventitious embryos which are then regenerated in the plant.
