A potentiometer 16, and a potentiometer mounted at right angles to it are adjusted manually by a rolling ball 5 supported on one or more spheres 10 which are themselves supported by a layer of balls 11 in a semi-spherical cup 13 as in Specification 1, 061, 657. The top of the ball 5 is steadied by an apertured sheet 7 of P. T. F. E. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the ball 5 is supported on three equi-spaced spheres and the sheet 7 is dispensed with or replaced by a dirt-excluding felt sheet.
