PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the job of setting paper in a thermal printer. SOLUTION: To a thermal head module 41, a platen module 42 and a gear module are connected. When paper is set, an operator operates a knob part 83b4 with a fingertip so as to pull it up in the Z1 direction. Consequently the platen module 42 is turned counterclockwise around a pin 61d and a platen 80 is moved apart from a thermal head 70 to assume a platen-open state.
