PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely, safely and inexpensively construct a rectangular tunnel of a large cross section by non-open cut tunneling method. SOLUTION: The circular shield tunnels 7a-7d of good boring precision are constructed in the axial direction at the four corners of a prescribed area, the circular shield tunnels 7a-7d are integrated and bored as a guide between any one right and left tunnels out of upper and lower tunnels out of the constructed circular shield tunnels 7a-7d, one of upper and lower floor boards 8a-8d is constructed, the other of the upper and lower floor boards is also constructed, the circular shield tunnels 7a-7d are made the guide between the upper and lower tunnels of one hand of the right and left tunnels out of the constructed circular shield tunnels 7a-7d, one hand side wall part is integrated by an array type shield machine to be excavated, side walls 10a-10b are constructed, and the other hand side walls 8a-8b are constructed to complete an outer shell building frame. A ground part 11 surrounded by the upper and lower floor boards and both the side walls 8a-8b, 10a-10b is open-excavated.
