PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator for controlling the dispersion of the expansion/ contraction quantity of a plurality of expansion devices such as hydraulic jacks so as to be synchronized with each other. SOLUTION: An elevator 11 which has hydraulic jacks 18 as expansion devices expanding/contracting vertically and arranged at plural points on a supported body to raise and lower the supported body with the synchronous operation of the hydraulic jacks 18 includes a plurality of stroke detectors 39 for individually detecting the expansion of the hydraulic jacks 18 and a controller 36 for controlling the power supply frequency of an electric motor 35 for a hydraulic pump 34 for supplying operating fluid to the hydraulic jacks 18 to synchronize the expansion/contraction quantity of the hydraulic jacks 18 on the basis of detection values for the stroke detectors 39.
