PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a tatami mat lightweight, to secure a cushioning property and strength and to prevent the occurrence of a warp by laminating and sticking a paper material, a cushioning material and cloth paper in sequence on both faces of a synthetic resin foam board to form a tatami base, and sewing a tatami facing to it. SOLUTION: A synthetic resin foam board 1 made of polystyrene foam is used as a core material, a paper material 2, a cushioning material 3 and cloth paper 4 are laminated in sequence symmetrically on both faces, the layers are stuck by an adhesive to form a tatami base, and a tatami facing made of rush is sewn on the surface to manufacture a tatami mat. A laminate of a polyethylene sheet and kraft paper is stuck on both faces of an aluminum sheet to form the paper material 2, bridge-type polyethylene foam is used for the cushioning material 3, and the polypropylene cloth paper laminated with a polyethylene resin is used for the cloth paper 4. The tatami mat is made lightweight, its cushioning property and strength can be secured, and the occurrence of a warp can be prevented.
