PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base for cataplasm that has excellent extensibility and shape retention as well as moisture retention and skin adhesion. SOLUTION: This base for cataplasm is made of a thermally crosslinked carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt (for example, it is prepared by crosslinking carboxy-methylcellulose sodium salt with heat at 80-200 deg.C for 20-180 minutes.
