PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effect the closing of excellent quality by a plate bending machine such as a panel bender. SOLUTION: After a flange surface of a vertical part 57 of a plate W is pressed from its side by a bend beam 31 of a plate bending machine to position the plate W, a top die 9 is lowered and a horizontal flange part 59 of the plate W is pressed downward to effect the closing. During this closing, the flange surface of the vertical part 57 of the plate W is pressed from its side by the bend beam 31 to effect the closing of excellent quality without curving the flange part.
