A color photographic silver halide material having a support and at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, the silver halide of which consists of at least 95 mole % of AgCl, and which contains a magenta coupler of formula (I) wherein R denotes H or a group which is split off under the conditions of chromogenic development, R1 denotes alkyl, which is optionally substituted, and R2 denotes R1 or aryl, wherein the sum of all the C atoms of the R1 and R2 radicals in a coupler molecule is at least 12, and wherein the silver halide contains mercury, is distinguished by improved latent image stability.
