PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a shape detector for an endoscope according to the connection state of a magnetic field generation means. SOLUTION: A source coil drive circuit part 28 is provided with a source coil disconnection/short-circuit detection circuit 52 and a probe connection detecting circuit 53. The source coil disconnection/short-circuit detecting circuit 52 detects disconnection and short-circuiting of a source coil 13g. The probe connection detecting circuit 53 detects the presence of connection with a probe 14. A marker coil drive circuit part 29 is provided with a marker coil disconnection/short-circuit detecting circuit 56 and a marker connection detecting circuit 57. The marker coil disconnection/short-circuiting detecting circuit 56 detects disconnection and short-circuiting of a marker coil 18a. The marker connection detecting circuit 57 detects the presence of connection with a marker 17a.
