PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire extinguishing method and its device capable of efficiently extinguishing fires and reducing the loss of water. SOLUTION: To extinguish fires occurring in spaces 12, 13 for fire extinction, the kinds of combustibles (e.g. wood, kerosene) placed in the spaces 12, 13 are identified and water particles with diameters corresponding to the kinds of the combustible are sprayed. More specifically, a gas spray nozzle 20, the so-called two-fluid-type nozzle, for example, is used and the ratio (gas-liquid ratio) of gas (air or inert gas) to water supplied is varied to adjust the particles to the particle diameters corresponding to the kinds of the combustibles; with the gas-liquid ratio held constant, the quantity of water is varied according to the condition of combustion of the combustibles.
