PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer device and a memory protection method capable of preventing the occurrence of breakdown of a nonvolatile memory before the expiration of the life of the printer device. SOLUTION: The contents of an EEPROM 1708 are temporarily copied in the work area (WORK) of a DRAM 1703. However, according to the procedure of a recording operation, the contents of the WORK are referred to or updated. The contents stored in the DRAM 1703 and the contents stored in the EEPROM 1708 are compared with timing determined so that before the service life of the printer device expires, the number of times that the information of the EEPROM 1708 is updated does not exceed a specified number of times, for example at the time when an instruction to turn off the power of the printer device is given. According to the result of the comparison, information stored in the EEPROM 1708 is updated.
