The measuring device includes two measuring surfaces (2, 8) which can be moved towards each other so that both surfaces are in contact with the object (3) being measured. A hydraulic braking arrangement (20, 24) is mechanically connected to the measuring arrangement (5) so that the hydraulic system reduces the speed at which the measuring surfaces are moved towards the object.
