PURPOSE: An engagement structure damps shock on backing gearshift and improves gearshift operating quality on engagement of a backing idle gear by a gearshift lever. CONSTITUTION: An engagement structure comprises a backing idle gear(50), an acting piston(61), a hydraulic cylinder(65), a hydraulic pressure supplying device(70) and a return device(80). The backing idle gear(50) is engaged between a main shaft gear(40) and a backing gear(45) of a transmission on an idle gear shaft(52). The acting piston(61) is installed on the idle gear shaft(52) and placed beside the backing idle gear(50) to slide to the axial direction to engage the backing idle gear(50). The hydraulic cylinder(65) has the tail end of the acting piston(61) inserted and a hydraulic pressure room(65a) formed to push the acting piston(61) on the engagement of the backing gear(45). The hydraulic pressure supplying device(70) pressurizes hydraulic pressure to the hydraulic cylinder(65) on the backing operation of a gearshift lever(30). The return device(80) is placed on the idle gear shaft(52) on the side opposite to the acting piston(61) to give elastic force to the direction to release the engagement of the backing idle gear(50). The structure engages the backing idle gear(50) by the hydraulic pressure interlinked with the operation of the gearshift lever(30).
